In loving memory of our MA student Margarita Kuchma, who was a Smolny College graduate, a PIE student at Bard, and part of CHRA’s inaugural cohort in the OSUN M.A. in Human Rights and the Arts, the inaugural Margarita Kuchma Project Award was announced by the Human Rights Project at Bard College in February, 2022.
Margarita was a talented artist and activist with a passionate commitment to making real change in the world. The award in her name is another kind of memorial for Margarita, a living memorial designed to encourage Bard students and recent graduates to emulate her commitment to political and social engagement. The Margarita Kuchma Project Award invites students to imagine, plan, and then actively realize a project that addresses fundamental issues of equality, freedom, social justice, civil rights, and human rights — and offers significant financial support to enable them to put it into practice.
The recipient of the Award will be selected in a three-stage competition, culminating in a $10,000 cash award to be used in the creation of a real-world project in the summer of 2022.
