On earth as it is in here includes different video and audio installation as well as a series of on-site performances. The project takes place at the camaguTshawe artist residency and farm compound in Murray Park, Gqeberha, South Africa.
camaguTshawe offers housing for artists as well as studio space for rehearsal, staging, installations, and performances. The project brings together artists, cultural workers, and community activists whose work, in one way or another, engages or responds to matters of community building through land and food.
The artists involved will be in residence at camaguTshawe for installation, rehearsals and preparation for the opening. As the site is a small farm, there are a few buildings that will host some of the installed works, but (weather allowing) most of the work will be installed and performed outdoors. Filming, storytelling and performances will take place within the compound. The opening event will include video and sound installations.
As English is the second or third language to most in the community, indigenous languages and practice will be given priority in all storytelling and performances.
The abiding ethos of the project is a strong connectedness to experiment in the hybridity of forms, practices and cross-sectionality of content between performance, documentary art, activism and film.
